Illustration and book design for the children’s book Tanyasi világ
Tanyasi világ began when Steiner Györgyi asked us to create illustrations for her stories about the beauty of rural life in Hungary. The project included not only the illustrations, but also the book cover, layout and print preparation, so the publication could be developed as one coherent visual world.

A children’s book inspired by rural life in Hungary
The stories present the world of farm life, the beauty of the Hungarian countryside and the small everyday details of rural living in a form created for children. During the first discussions, we became familiar with the text, the tone of the book and the author’s ideas, so the illustrations could do more than accompany the stories: they could also strengthen the atmosphere of the whole publication.
Refining characters and scenes together
During the planning stage, we created sketches for the characters and scenes. These were refined through several rounds of discussion, so the images would suit the target age group and also capture the attention of younger readers. For this project, it was important that the pictures remained warm, clear and rich in detail without becoming overcrowded.
A4 illustrations created with coloured pencils
The final illustrations were created in A4 format using coloured pencils. The detailed drawing and warm colours helped convey the atmosphere of rural life. The traditional technique gave the images a more personal and natural feel, which suited the countryside theme well.
Cover, layout and print preparation handled together
The book cover, layout and print preparation were also part of our work. This meant the book was not assembled from separate visual elements, but developed as a unified publication: the cover, interior pages, illustrations and print-ready files all supported the same warm rural atmosphere.
